I also had a map seed that placed an elevator to Storage Area 6 right near the start and I could go down without a problem.
I think that the vanishing floor bug is a well-known one, just like the overloading problem, when the game starts drastically lagging and flickering after some time and the only solution is to restart it.
My guess is that the best solution for the vanishing floor bug is to save regularly (assuming one is playing in safe mode) until the developers find out how to deal with this issue.

#2This has been around since the elevators were first installed in the game. It's like that black wall bug that plagued the earlier versions. It absolutely refuses to be solved. Though when it finally does, we all will rejoice!

#3I've had that happen to me too. One time, there was a clear-cut impassable line in the airlock room that leads to SCP-079 that I could not cross without falling in an invisible pit, so the game was pretty much unbeatable.
