I stumbled upon this game and I really want to play, however I can't install the DirectPlay due to sufficient admin privileges. I heard that if I ran it in OpenGl instead it would bypass this. Will this work on this game?

No, DirectX only.
Also can you explain the problem? Which Windows do you have? Or even OS?
