Big Deal of Double Post?

#1
By my understanding double posting will result in thread derailing. This is true, if anyone is present to make a big deal of it. And whenever I see someone double post I see like ten nerds complain about how bad it is to double post. It's like the end of the world if someone double posts. Why was it originally a big deal? I doesn't make the forums look unorganized in any way. Does it? I'm not saying I double post (often) most of the time I just edit my post. I'm not going to put official rule 02 in denial. I'm just asking why is it such a big deal?

Well, basically double posting when a user has an option to edit their posts, has little to no character limit to a post, and are able to multi-quote when they want to reply to several users, makes it seem the user is purposefully trying to bump their post count up ((which is really stupid and shouldn't matter on a lot of forums. Quality over quantity, etc!)). Also, it's annoying to find multiple replies in succession by the same person when the same could have been done in one single post. it makes people think that the user is outright trying to spam and clutter the forums up. 8\

Basically, it's impolite and there are alternatives. It's kind of annoying to sweep through and we try to discourage it to make the forums look nicer.

As the rules over on another forum I frequent say:
Don’t post stupid junk. For instance: Short, one word, meaningless posts. Multiple, repeated posts. Posts that say nothing. Posts that mean nothing. Posts that no one wants to read. Posts that say, “First post!” Irrelevant posts. Inappropriate posts. We know why you are doing this—You want to artificially bump up your post count and achieve new, incredibly-valuable and hilarious post count rankings. To combat this, we have made sure that the forum post count rankings are funniest at the lower ranks, and they get progressively less funny as you rank up. At the very top, they’re super boring. I think we grabbed the last five from the titles of old Perry Como albums. Do you really want your rank to be, “Como’s Golden?” No. So don’t spam.

Thank you for the explanation. You actually gave a pretty good reason.

Dead thread is dead. Try to not post in threads that are more than a few weeks old. People get mad.
